Teacher Blogs Update
Over the last couple of weeks I have been searching for some more teacher blogs to add to our list. In my quest I have found 2 Australian teacher blogs that have some great posts and resource ideas.

These 2 blogs have been added to the 'Teacher Blogs' section in the side bar.
I also came across the Grattan Institute. The Grattan Institute is Australian based and writes publications, news and opinions on Australia's educaton system. This link has been added under the Professional Reading section in the side bar.

New Year's resolution!
In the past year, with all your help, we have achieved something special. While our end of year report dealt with facts and figures and all that stuff, that's not what we are talking about this time.
In 2008 we began with about 10 members and modest expectations of what we were going to achieve. With all of the circumstances surrounding CRTs and their generally low standing in the Education community compared to their full-time counterparts we never expected to go very far. There were those out there telling us we never would too.
Our membership continued to grow anyway.
Here we are, 4 years later. We run meetings, PD workshops, a blog that gets visited up to 1500 times a month, a YouTube channel that's starting to be watched more and more, obtained top class presenters on behalf of local CRTs and, most importantly, helped to create a solid and supportive CRT community.
Through the whole journey people were telling us this would never happen. The network would never grow, never work, never last... every step of the way. We managed it anyway.
This is where our New Year's resolution comes from, the circumstances that created it.
Our New Year's resolution is to help every member to do something special. To help them in those times when someone says "you're only a CRT, you won't be able to do that".
Our New Year's resolution is to help each and every member to have only one single thought when they are told something like this. Told they can't do something, told they'll never succeed, told they are a second class teacher. We want that one and only thought to be:
"Wanna bet?"

One of those moments!
Well. Sometimes being a CRT can be a hard slog for no feedback and can feel mighty unrewarding. Then there's those other times...
I got a message from a teacher the other day. I've had the class more than once this year and also some of the students in Literacy Intervention sessions. It's a good class and often rewarding because passing the students in the corridor sometimes ellicits a hopeful "Mrs L, are you in our room today?" which is always nice to hear.
The other day though... The class were filling in their self assessment forms for the year in which there's a section for their goals for the following year. Two of the students put in;
"To have Mrs L as my classroom teacher".
Bless their little hearts! Those are the moments that make absolutely everything about being a CRT 100% worthwhile.

If you are travelling these holidays, please drive safely and keep a special eye out for those that aren't! We'd like to remind you all that speeding, driving while talking on your mobile phone and not wearing your seatbelt are all considered "Naughty" and will make sure you end up on the business end of one of Santa's lists!
If you are camping, hiking, boating or one of those other outdoor activities please remember to take all the appropriate safety precautions! For those of you staying home, please remember that you are staying where most accidents happen!
We hope you all have a wonderful time and make it through to the new year safe and sound!
