Calling for your support!

I have been contacted by two individuals looking for regional CRTs input into their research.

Kathryn Jenkins, a lecturer from the University of New England in NSW, is looking for CRTs to participate in a research survey she is conducting.
'This study will explore the support gained and challenges provided for casual teachers, as well as their professional learning.'
In her letter (attached below) she is looking for CRTs under the age of 40 but would also like to hear from rural and regional CRTs outside of this age group.  In other words, drop her an email and have a chat to her about your experiences as a CRT!

Daryl Brooks, Executive Trainer of InThync Professional Training, has also written asking for your assistance.  InThync are trying to plan PD for 2013 and are looking at expanding their PD scheduling to include regional areas this year.

'An important part of our 2013 planning is to continue to design and deliver programs that are requested by teachers at the chalkface, that impact positively on their teaching and their students’ learning experience – relationship, impact and outcome.
To enable us to better assist you with your particular professional learning interests and requirements, please take just a few minutes to click on the link below and answer just 8 short questions about your professional learning “wish-list” for 2013.'

The following link will take you to the survey;

Teacher Blogs Update

Over the last couple of weeks I have been searching for some more teacher blogs to add to our list.  In my quest I have found 2 Australian teacher blogs that have some great posts and resource ideas.

Literacy, families and learning

Top Teacher

These 2 blogs have been added to the 'Teacher Blogs' section in the side bar.

I also came across the Grattan Institute.  The Grattan Institute is Australian based and writes publications, news and opinions on Australia's educaton system.  This link has been added under the Professional Reading section in the side bar.

If you have a favourite blog or website we would love for you to comment with the details on this post otherwise you can email myself on wodongacrt@vit.vic.edu.au and I will get it up onto the blog.

New Year's resolution!

In the past year, with all your help, we have achieved something special.  While our end of year report dealt with facts and figures and all that stuff, that's not what we are talking about this time.

In 2008 we began with about 10 members and modest expectations of what we were going to achieve.  With all of the circumstances surrounding CRTs and their generally low standing in the Education community compared to their full-time counterparts we never expected to go very far.  There were those out there telling us we never would too.

Our membership continued to grow anyway.

Here we are, 4 years later.  We run meetings, PD workshops, a blog that gets visited up to 1500 times a month, a YouTube channel that's starting to be watched more and more, obtained top class presenters on behalf of local CRTs and, most importantly, helped to create a solid and supportive CRT community.

Through the whole journey people were telling us this would never happen.  The network would never grow, never work, never last... every step of the way.  We managed it anyway.
This is where our New Year's resolution comes from, the circumstances that created it.

Our New Year's resolution is to help every member to do something special.  To help them in those times when someone says "you're only a CRT, you won't be able to do that".

Our New Year's resolution is to help each and every member to have only one single thought when they are told something like this.  Told they can't do something, told they'll never succeed, told they are a second class teacher.  We want that one and only thought to be:

"Wanna bet?"

Happy New Years everyone!

Regards,

Mel, Paul and family.
